Larger, More Advanced Fox Shocks Preview Capability of New Truck

Aug 9, 2016
We don’t need to tell you the 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is one of the most highly anticipated new trucks in the past five years -- you’ve told us. And nobody is prouder of it than Ford itself. The first-generation model was pretty epic in its own right, but the second-generation model promises to improve on the performance of its venerable predecessor in nearly every area. One of the key ingredients to the Raptor’s off-road performance recipe is its suspension, and it definitely wasn’t neglected on the new model. The new Fox shocks have grown from 2.5 to 3 inches, with 44 percent more volume for improved heat dissipation and nearly 2 inches more of suspension travel for a total of 13 inches of travel in the front and 13.9 inches in the rear, a 15 percent increase over the outgoing model.

To demonstrate this performance, Ford put together a video compilation of some high-speed desert runs along with animation of the new shocks, showcasing such technical nuances as internal bypasses, variable damping rates based on wheel travel, a new base valve piston for a more comfortable on-road ride, and nine distinct damping zones optimized for both on- and off-road driving. You can watch the video below.
