’17 Ford Super Duty: More Torque, Higher Tow Capacity
The all-new ’17 Ford F-Series Super Duty will be out Super-ing its own previous models, thanks to the 6.7L Power Stroke’s 440 hp and 925 lb-ft of torque (all models with the 6.7L will make these numbers). Additionally, the F-450 will have a max gooseneck towing capacity of 32,500 pounds; fifth-wheel towing capacity will be 27,500. Conventional towing will be 21,000 pounds, while max payload will be upped to 7,630 pounds (F-350). With the new trailer tow package, the F-250 will see a max conventional towing figure of 18,000 pounds (ditto the F-350 single-rear wheel).

Chevy is the Official Truck of Sports Car Club of America
You might be wondering how the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) could have an official truck, and that’s fair until you think about the tow rig role of trucks in racing. And in the case of SCCA, Chevrolet Silverados will now be responsible for the transport of three SCCA equipment trailers ranging from 20 to 28 feet long.

Ford Teams Up With Tequila Maker to Develop Bioplastics
Unlikely bedfellows? Ford and Jose Cuervo are figuring out how to use the tequila maker’s agave plant byproduct for making sustainable bioplastics to use for interior and exterior vehicle components as well as storage bins, HVAC units, and wiring harnesses. Jose Cuervo had wanted to develop a new way to use its remnant fibers; some are composted on the farms or given to local artisans for making crafts and agave paper.

There’s Been a Decrease in Tailgate Theft
Some good news about crime: The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) punched the numbers and learned that insured tailgate theft declined 6 percent in 2015. That’s after a consecutive increase in theft for five solid years. This is focused on insured tailgates/trucks. NICB first started tracking tailgates in 2010 and counted 430 claims; in 2015, it was 1,787. Top state for theft from 2014 to 2015? Texas. Top city? Houston. Other states feeling the pain? California, Florida, Arizona, and Pennsylvania.

GM and NASA Collaborating on Space Glove
Together, GM and NASA developed robotic glove tech to be used on the International Space Station, and now RoboGlove and SEM Glove technologies will be combined in spirit to further the use of the glove to develop a grab-assist device, among other features. The RoboGlove has sensors, actuators, and human-like tendons. GM’s plan for world and space domination includes becoming the first “U.S. manufacturing customer” to use this robotic glove in some of its plants.

•Looking to buy a vehicle? Turns out if you’re a Generation Y shopper, you’re heavily using auto manufacturer websites and their tools for comparisons, configurating, searching for incentives, and using the payment calculator. The J.D. Power 2016 Manufacturer Website Evaluation Study also found that the Gen Yers enjoyed their online experience more than Baby Boomers.
•On that note…Beepi’s ’16 Consumer Automotive Index studied the process of buying a vehicle and wanted consumer feedback. It found that 87 percent of Americans don’t like the experience of buying at a dealership. This includes 61 percent who felt they were being taken advantage of; 56 percent of those age 18 to 34 said they’d rather clean their house than haggle with a car salesperson.
