Tesla Takes EV Showcase On the Road with Mobile Design Studio
Fleet of Model X SUVs Tow Airstream Trailers
It’s hard to imagine a contemporary automotive brand that evokes such passion, disdain, hostility, or interest as Tesla. To some, it represents the exciting electrified future of the automobile and to others an existential threat to a nearly century-old model of doing business. Love it or hate it, you can’t ignore it. Tesla will soon be even harder to ignore with its small fleet of mobile design studios that will soon be on the road across the U.S. showcasing the brand’s vehicles at various locations. The initiative, dubbed “Tesla Explores,” will consist of a fleet of six specially configured Airstream trailers towed by a Model X SUV.
The mobile design studios will be staffed with Tesla product specialists and computer terminals for prospective customers to design and configure their own vehicle. Planned stops include New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, and Santa Barbara. On the Tesla Explores website, fans can submit a request for a mobile studio to visit their area.
The Model X has a stated towing capacity of 5,000 pounds, enough to tow the lightweight aluminum Airstream trailer. Personally, we think if our Model U pickup were ever built, it would make a great tow vehicle for the campaign as well. You can visit the Tesla Explores page here.
