Ford Updates Police Interceptor Utility Explorer With Rear Spoiler Lights
Traffic Warning Lights On Spoiler Enable “Slick Top” Stealth
Check your speed any time you see a Ford Explorer in the rear-view mirror, because Ford’s newest update to the Police Interceptor Utility makes it look even more like the midsize SUV than ever.
The PI Utility’s available new Rear Spoiler Traffic Warning Lights include amber, red, and blue LED lights integrated within the spoiler’s profile, offering rear traffic control without compromising visibility for the driver. Combined with the optional Front Interior Visor Light Bar, the rear lights enable law enforcement agencies to run their vehicles with stealthy “slick tops,” as both lighting elements preclude the need for a roof-mounted light bar.
“Together with our front visor light bar, Rear Spoiler Traffic Warning Lights offer a fully integrated solution for agencies wishing to minimize the presence of their police vehicles,” said Arie Groeneveld, of Ford police programs.
Ford is also keen to point out that its solution to “stealth-mode” operation preserves outward visibility, as aftermarket interior light bars can hang in the rear window and impede rear visibility. Furthermore, the feature includes a limited factory warranty, something that can’t be said of all aftermarket products.
So, is that an Explorer Sport or a Police Interceptor Utility following behind you? Thanks to Ford’s newly available light options, it’s harder than ever to tell. Better slow down a bit, just in case.
