SPIED: 2019 Ram 1500 Mega Cab Mule With Reshaped Tailgate
Lengthened Cab, New Tailgate Appear on Tester
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles looks to be right on track with the new Ram 1500 pickup, due for the 2019 model year. Sporting a new tailgate that closely resembles that of the silhouette we saw awhile back, this test mule only reignites our suspicion that Ram will offer the light-duty 1500 in a spacious Mega Cab configuration.
The reshaped tailgate features similar contours to the leaked images from last month’s dealer meeting, including light-collecting scalloping to give the rear end a sculpted, muscular look. This particular test mule uses a front clip from the current Ram 1500 Limited, but we expect refreshed styling up front as well.
Our sources also report this Ram enjoys an updated, more luxurious interior, and some suspect that features found in the posh Chrysler Pacifica minivan should make their way to the Ram’s cockpit. Among those niceties will be an updated Uconnect infotainment interface (including a rear-seat “Theater” entertainment system), befitting this truck’s luxurious and spacious rear quarters.
Indeed, this is only the latest of many appearances of the Mega Cab–spec Ram 1500. The spacious pickup has shown up wrapped in camouflage on numerous occasions, giving us reason to believe Ram will once again offer its littlest truck with its largest cab. If previous iterations of the Mega Cab are anything to go off of, we suspect the 2019 Ram 1500 M-C will offer more legs-crossed, stretch-out legroom than any other 1/2-ton pickup.
We’ll know more soon, as we expect Ram to give the 2019 1500 a formal introduction at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in January.
