2014 Jeep Wrangler First Look
Rubicon X Joins Lineup, Freedom Edition Continues
The only changes in store for the 2014 Jeep Wrangler are a new trim level and the continuation of another. And that's probably just fine as far as Wrangler loyalists are concerned.
Despite its seemingly anachronistic formula, it remains one of the best-selling SUVs in the U.S. The 2014 model year brings a Rubicon X model at the top of the line. The X combines the rugged mechanicals of the Wrangler Rubicon with unique graphics, interior trim and wheels. It also brings the continuation of the Freedom Edition, with $250 from each sale going toward the Jeep brand's support of the USO's Operation Safe Return initiative. The Freedom Edition's trademark "Oscar Mike" logo and detailing continues as well.
Specific changes to the Rubicon X include 17-inch satin black wheels with polished faces, a dual-intake power dome hood with functional vents, front and rear red tow hooks, Mopar rock rails, and a black fuel filler door, and a red silhouette "Rubicon" decal on each side of the hood. A canvas soft top is standard, with a three-piece hard top or body-colored hard top available. On the inside, the Rubicon X gets an enhanced display with oil pressure, transmission and coolant temperatures, a digital speedometer and tire pressure gauge. The passenger grab handle, vent rings, steering wheel spokes and door pulls get a Quick Silver finish.
Of interest to avid off-roaders is an available Trail Kit featuring two D-rings, a tow strap, gloves and a carrying bag, optional on all trim levels.
As before, the 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 is the sole engine offering, mated to the choice of a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual. All 2014 Wranglers get clear park lamps and turn indicators, replacing last year's amber-colored lenses. New colors for 2014 include Amp'd, Anvil, Copperhead, Flame Red, Granite Crystal and Hydro Blue, the last being exclusive to the Freedom Edition model.
