Ford, Ram, Chevrolet Compete To Be Jimmy Fallon's New Truck
“Tonight Show” Host Comment on Truck Purchase Causes Social Media Melee
When you're a public figure, even an offhand comment can make big waves in the media. In the case of “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon and his seemingly casual comment about wanting to buy a new truck, Twitter lit up with Ford, Ram, and Chevrolet all competing for the evening comedy show host's business. Unlike predecessor Jay Leno, a legitimate, dyed-in-the-wool car guy, Fallon's knowledge of cars is relatively minimal, so he asked members of his studio audience what truck he should buy. When one of his guests said "Ford F-150," he asked how big it was, and the response was "big enough," which became a running gag for that episode.
Ford was the first to take to social media to recommend a 2015 F-150 King Ranch, but Ram quickly countered and went a step further by delivering a Ram 1500 Laramie to the NBC studios in Manhattan, inviting Fallon to take it for a test drive. One of Fallon's band members took the truck out, but Ram continues to stoke the publicity fires by asking its Twitter followers whether Fallon should drive the truck himself. Chevrolet also recommended a Silverado.
Neither Fallon nor the “Tonight Show” has officially or publicly responded to the Detroit Three's overtures nor indicated any preference, although Fallon mentioned Toyota and Nissan in his comments. So far, the favorite of Fallon's Twitter followers seems to be the Ford, but which model he ultimately buys, or if he ends up buying a new truck at all, remain to be seen.
