Four Wheeler Names 10 Most Significant Trucks of Decade

Raptor, Power Wagon, Multiple Ram Models Make List

Edward A. SanchezMar 18, 2014
Whenever the conversation turns to trucks and discussions of the "best" or "most significant," you know there are going to be varying opinions, and plenty of fanboy trash-talk. Four Wheeler magazine rounded up what it considered the 10 most significant trucks of the last decade. The criteria were simply a polling of the magazine staff, backed up by their rationale, usually based on the trucks' unique attributes.
A few of their choices would probably be on any truck fan's top 10 list, like the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor and the 2005 Dodge Ram (back when it was still a Dodge) Power Wagon. A case could also be made for their selection of the Ford F-150 EcoBoost and the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel.

But a few models are perhaps a little more debatable or controversial. The Hummer H3 T Alpha was selected, with judges citing the 4:1 transfer case, a short ratio matched among mass-market models only by the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, a healthy 300-hp 5.3-liter Vortec V-8, and front and rear locking differentials. While we can appreciate the legitimacy of the hardware on the Alpha, our experience with the H3 is more of exterior plastic falling off in our hands.
Also making the list was the Nissan Frontier Nismo, for its locking rear differential, fun-to-drive character, and punchy V-6. Another oddball on the list was the Silverado and Sierra models equipped with Quadrasteer. Certainly significant from a technological and engineering standpoint, Quadrasteer was an expensive option that had relatively few takers, although the trucks were amazingly nimble and maneuverable, as anyone who's driven or seen one in action can attest.
