2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 SSV Brings Practicality to Police Departments
Non-Pursuit Rated Truck Offered with Law Enforcement-Specific Equipment
Across the country, we're starting to see the trend of police departments transitioning from full-size sedans to SUVs for pursuit and patrol vehicles, with the Ford Police Interceptor Utility and Chevrolet Tahoe PPV reporting for duty. For police work that doesn't see high-speed pursuits, Chevrolet is now offering the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with a Special Service (SSV) package.
The package is available on Silverado 1500 Crew Cab models in 1WT or 1LS trim levels with the 5.3L EcoTec3 V-8 engine. The SSV package is available with either a 5-ft 8-in or 6-ft 6-in bed and in two- or four-wheel-drive. The Silverado SSV gets a standard 170-amp, high-output alternator and 730-CCA auxiliary battery, allowing for the operation of lights, computers, radios, and other equipment with the engine turned off. To accommodate additional accessories and equipment, four switches with a power supply are built into the center stack for easy upfitting.
For durability and easy cleanup, the rear seat is vinyl, and an available front-center seat delete offers more space for gear and equipment. Chevrolet will offer ship-through options for upfitting light bars, sirens, partitions, and additional equipment. Available features include pre-wiring for auxiliary front lighting and sirens, a flasher system for headlights and taillights, and a rear-vision camera.
