American Pickers Retires High-Mileage Sprinter for 2015 Ford Transit Diesel
Scavenger Hunt Contest Ties In with New Van for Show
If you've followed the show "American Pickers" for any amount of time, you're probably familiar with the threesome that ply the highways and byways of the U.S. looking for dusty, rusty treasures, consisting of Mike Wolfe, Frank Fritz, and the ubiquitous white Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with the "Antique Archaeology" logo on the side. The old Sprinter now has more than 200,000 miles from its journeys, so thanks to the duo's newfound cable-TV fame, Ford Motor Company stepped up to provide a 2015 Ford Transit cargo van for the show.
Due to the quantity of miles the pair racks up, their obvious engine choice for the Transit was the 3.2L Power Stroke I-5 diesel. To maximize the road-trip and pickin' potential, Mike and Frank chose the long-wheelbase, high-roof model, packing a substantial 487 cubic feet of cargo space.
In conjunction with its promotion on the popular cable TV show, Ford is also kicking off a scavenger hunt contest in which 10 scale-model Ford Transit vans will be located in antique shops across the country. The 10 metro areas that have the toy Transits are Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Kansas City, Missouri, New York City, Orlando, Phoenix, and San Francisco. If you find one of the Transits, you can send a photo tweet to @Ford with hashtag #winTransit to win the use of a 2015 Transit for two weeks. You can find more details on the contest at social.ford.com.
