Edward A. SanchezApr 22, 2014
The Lexus NX had its official production debut in Beijing, but made a surprise appearance at the New York International Auto Show going on concurrently with the Beijing Auto Show. Along with its stateside appearance, Lexus also announced output figures for the two powertrains that will be offered on the NX in the U.S. market.
The NX200t will feature an all-new 2.0L turbocharged direct-injected I-4 producing 235 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The NX300h will have total system output of 194 hp from its 2.5L Atkinson-cycle I-4 engine with Hybrid Synergy Drive. The NX200t will be mated exclusively to a six-speed automatic transmission, while the NX300h will have a hybrid-specific continuously-variable transmission.
Lexus also released more detailed specifications on the NX, including wheelbase, length, and width. Compared to the Ford Escape-based Lincoln MKC, one of the new rivals it will face when it comes to market next year, the NX is slightly longer at 182.3 inches, compared to the Lincoln's 179.2, riding on a slightly shorter wheelbase of 104.7 inches, compared to the Lincoln's 105.9.
In addition to being the first Lexus to get a direct-injected turbocharged I-4 engine, the NX will also be the first to get an available Qi wireless charging pad for mobile devices.
