Face of Nissan NV200 London Taxi Finally Revealed
Round Headlights, Chrome Grille Give Modern Cab Classic Touch
In November, we reported on Nissan developing a bespoke nose for the NV200 Taxi in London. At the time, it was cladded, and we could get only a faint idea of what it might look like. Well, the bandages have finally come off the NV200 Taxi's London nose job, revealing a face that will be adorning Nissan's NV200 London taxis starting in December 2014.
Nissan sought input from current London taxi drivers, the mayor's office, and other stakeholders to ensure it would be immediately recognized by locals and tourists, as well as retain the essential characteristics of the Hackney Carriage.
Unlike past London Taxis, the new NV200 will be powered by a gasoline engine, in this case a 1.6-liter I-4 mated to a CVT automatic transmission. An electric version is also under development for release at a future date. Development and improvement on Nissan's London Taxi is ongoing, with Nissan's technical center in Cranfield continue to get input from real-world driver feedback and trials. The Glyn Hopkin dealer group will be the official exclusive outlet for the cabs, and will have a dedicated showroom based in the Canary Wharf area east of downtown London.
