In a second collaboration between Volkswagen of America, Inc. and First Act, the two will support Operation Happy Note, a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated solely to sending deployed soldiers musical instruments, by donating 250 First Act electric guitars and amps to those service men and women expressing an interest in music.
"We are truly grateful for the generous donation from Volkswagen and First Act," said Steve Baker, founder of Operation Happy Note. "Music has been an important part of our lives and for many of the soldiers overseas; it gives us great pleasure to be able to provide such unique instruments to these troops."
Through letters and emails, Operation Happy Note has received hundreds of requests for instruments from soldiers stationed overseas. Many of them were forced to forgo their instruments once they left the country but with Volkswagen and First Act's donation, a majority of those requests will be fulfilled. Volkswagen has a strong history in music and with First Act's presence as a guitar industry leader, it seemed a natural fit to help provide these men and women with the custom-made First Act electric guitars.
"The Volkswagen brand continues to celebrate music and this was a small way to show our gratitude to our troops," said Steve Keyes, Director of Communications for Volkswagen of America, Inc. "We are very appreciative of our service men and women and are thankful to have the opportunity to donate these guitars to such a worthy and special organization like Operation Happy Note."
"We have a great partnership with Volkswagen and were happy to donate to such an exceptional and sincere organization dedicated to supporting our troops through musical instruments," added First Act's Vice President of Marketing, Jeff Walker.
Volkswagen continues to support musicians and the music culture, and recognized an important opportunity to help support the troops through the equity they hold within the music realm. Because of the great success and positive response of a partnership forged last year with First Act, Volkswagen was able to make such a generous donation and give back to the soldiers during the holiday season; a perfect time to help these men and women spread some holiday cheer throughout their military units.
Since March of 2005, Operation Happy Note has sent hundreds of instruments including guitars, mandolins, banjos, violins, harmonicas and accessories to requesting service men and women. For more information on Operation Happy Note, please visit operationhappynote.com.
