Report confirms Hemi power for next-gen Nissan Titan
September 3, 2008
The all-new 2009 Dodge Ram full-size pickup truck has been met with mostly favorable reviews and that's good news not only for Chrysler, but for Nissan. See, Nissan's next-generation Titan full-size truck will be based on the Ram, cutting development costs for both Chrysler and Nissan and leading to speculation that Chrysler's 380-hp, 5.7L Hemi V-8 from the top-level Ram could find its way into the Nissan's engine bay as well.
That speculation can be confirmed according to Pickuptrucks.com, who reports that Chrysler chairman Jim Press recently answered this question in the affirmative, saying "(Nissan) will get the same Hemi powertrain (for the Titan)." We'd guess that finances have at least some role in the decision, it being cheaper for Chrysler and Nissan to share one top-flight engine, rather than Nissan continue to develop its 5.6L Endurance V-8 separately.
The next Nissan Titan is expected to enter production in 2011 at a Chrysler plant in Mexico, after ending the current model's production run at Nissan's Mississippi plant in late 2010.
