Recall Announced for 2004 Cadillac SRX
October 24, 2008
A recall has been announced by General Motors for 17,301 Cadillac SRX SUVs due to a potential problem with the automatic transmission. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has determined there have been enough reported issues with the automatic transmission to issue a recall notice. The problem lies with the automatic transmission shift lever, which can be knocked out of the Park position even when the brake is up or the ignition is off. The issue is serious; should the SRX be parked on a hill or on any type of slope, the vehicle will start to roll once it slips out of the Park gear.
Dealers will replace components of the shift lever that should solve the problem. All costs of the repair will be covered, free of charge for owners. The contact number for Cadillac is 800/982-2339, and the NHTSA hotline is 888/327-4236. Owners should contact Cadillac beginning in December.
