The 41st annual Baja 1000, scheduled to start on November 21, will feature big-time drifting names in the forms of two-time Formula drift champion Samuel Hbinette and Championship Off-Road Racing pilot Casey Currie. Hubinette and Currie will compete in Baja Challenge Class buggies alongside Baja veterans Tracy Jordan and Bill Weber.
Hubinette earned his keep and gained his reputation with his drifting skills, receiving the nickname of "The Crazy Swede." He started drifting by sliding cars around on arctic frozen lakes and has earned his reputation as one of the world's elite drifters. He has been drifting competitively since 2003 and has won the Formula Drift championship twice. In the 2008 Formula Drift championship, he won his second runner-up title. The 2008 Baja 1000 will be Hübinette's first sanctioned off-road race.

Currie is a third-generation off-road racer who began with motorcycles at age five and then moved into off-road trucks. He finished 10th in the CORR Pro Lite division in 2006 and finished 2nd in 2007.
Baja veteran Weber is a retired Navy Seal who now is a consultant for off-road motorsport companies supporting vehicle development and training. He also works as a guide for Wide Open Baja Adventure Tours and has two Baja 1000 victories under his belt. Fellow veteran Jordan has run the Baja 1000 in 2004, 2006, and 2007 and is also a rock-crawling pioneer who has won many rock-crawling championships.
The Baja 1000 race has run annually since 1967, except in 1974 due to the international fuel crisis. More than 350 entries from over 35 states and 14 countries compete in 28 Pro and 7 Sportsman classes, with entries including cars, trucks, motorcycles, and ATVs.
