The number of competitors for the 2009 CleanTools Legend Cup award went from 20 to six to one, and by the time it hit one, only the 1946 Chevy Pickup "Ballistic" remained. As the seven-year project of Gene and Earlene Elpers of Evansville, Indiana, there was a lot of work and effort put into the custom truck, which ultimately culminated in a $5000 cash prize and a trophy that stands over 5 ft tall.

As a custom truck, "Ballistic" features hundreds of body modifications, which range from a 1937 Ford-inspired front grille to a one-piece molded cab and bed combination. Moving the truck is a fuel-injected 6.1L Chrysler Hemi V-8, which routes power through a Chrysler transmission. Custom wheels and custom paint exemplify the high standards and attention to detail committed to by the Elpers. In the words of Gene Elpers himself, winning the award was "Super Good!"
The award winner was announced at the Carquest World of Wheels in Chicago. The other five contestants for the Legend Cup were:
  • 1947 Ford Sportsman Woodie -- Jim and Pat Talaga
  • 1969 Chevy Camaro "Razor" -- Ery and Bonnie Woller
  • 1933 Willys -- John Mai
  • 1933 Ford Pickup "Tangerine Scream" -- Scott and Jane Billish
  • 1937 Ford Cabriolet "Velocity"
