The 591hp, $327,853 Ruf Dakara; When a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S Isn't Enough

If a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S just isn't fast or extravagant enough for you -- or if you just don't like the styling -- Ruf can help. Making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this week was the new Ruf Dakara, yours for just $327,853.

Some may scowl at the $200,000 premium over a new Cayenne Turbo S, but Ruf has made sure it's money well spent. For starters, they've bumped the power up from 550 hp to 591hp and the torque up from 553 lb-ft to 656 lb-ft. Ruf says that all that power will hustle you from 0 to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds -- still, that seems on par with the stock Cayenne Turbo S, which will do 0 to 60 in 4.7 seconds. And of course, the power bump comes at a price: Ruf says the Dakara will get about 10 mpg city and 22 mpg highway on the Euro-cycle, for a combined figure of 15.7 mpg.
Keeping the Dakara's power in check is a retuned suspension and a high-performance brake package, with an optional ceramic brake upgrade to bring those 22-in. five-spoke wheels to a stop. You'll want good brakes to keep the totally restyled nose out of any trouble, because Ruf put a lot of work (and your money) into it. Ruf has completely restyled the front end with a new fascia, grille, brake ducts, hood and wide fenders, all made from carbon-fiber. The biggest change, though, is the headlights, which Ruf has replaced with 911 headlights, helping the Cayenne look more like it belongs in the Porsche lineup. The Carbon Package also includes new side skirts, front and rear diffusers and a roof spoiler.
Ruf didn't forget about the posh interior either. It's all leather and features new seats and an LED lighting package to illuminate the door jams, the front and rear foot areas and the trunk. The big money was spent on the infotainment system. Controlled by a new touch screen, the system features navigation, internet access, TV reception, phone, CD and DVD capability, USB and iPod interfaces, front and rear cameras and 1,500-watts of power to make sure you (and everyone else in a 1000-foot radius) hear every last nuaince of your chosen music.
Sure it's pricey and drinks gas like it's going out of style, but Ruf has a pretty convincing package put together here, and we dare say it might just look better than the original Cayenne. Now all we need to do is scrape together $300,000 and hope Ruf plans on importing a few to the U.S.
