Mitsubishi Outlander Design Registered With European Union Trademark Office
May 28, 2009
Sources at Carscoop reported that Mitsubishi had registered the design of the Outlander GT concept with the European Union Trademark Office. The Outlander GT concept, which features the "Jet Fighter" front end sourced from the rally racer Lancer Evolution, made its debut last month at the New York auto show.
Sources did a bit of digging--records indicate the registration was filed on March 26. As is the case with most government bureaucracy, a lengthy examination period was completed before the registration was fully published on May 14. Considering the design of the current Outlander has already been lifted by Chinese automaker Jiangling Motors for its Outlander-clone Landwind X8 SUV, it comes as no surprise that Mitsubishi is taking the necessary steps to protect its future products.
The Outlander GT will be powered by the 220-hp, 3.0L MIVEC V-6 engine from the current topline Outlander XLS, and will be linked to Mitsubishi's Super-All-Wheel-Control drive system. The new Outlander will also feature Mitsubishi's Idle Neutral Logic, a system that automatically shifts the Outlander's six-speed Sportronic automatic transmission into neutral when the vehicle is completely stopped, to conserve fuel.
