Who would have seen this one coming? The Kia Soul'ster concept, which bowed at the Detroit auto show in January, has been awarded the 2009 Concept Truck of the Year award. While fans of the Soul'ster have lauded the concept for its economical versatility, others have not been as amused with the car-based FWD trucklet. The Soul'ster is based on the new 2010 Kia Soul
, which is powered by either a 1.6- or 2.0-liter I-4 engine. Despite no official confirmation on the Soul'ster's production, the trucklet has reportedly received enough interest to go on sale by the first half of 2010.
The Concept Vehicle of the Year Awards are awarded by a jury of more than two dozen North American automotive journalists. Last year's Concept Truck of the Year was the Land Rover LRX.
