2010 Acura MDX Sports Sharp New Look and Revised Features
July 29, 2009
Acura's seven-passenger luxury crossover will not only have a new look for 2010, but will feature a host of changes underneath the revised sheetmetal.
Underneath the hood will be a revised 3.7-liter VTEC V-6 engine with 300 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. Paired with the V-6 will be the brand-new Sequential SportShift six-speed automatic transmission with new multi-clutch torque converter. Two automatic shift modes are available on the six-speed, which can also be manually shifted via paddle shifters. With Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel Drive system, stability and traction constitute little worry while the MDX returns an EPA-estimated 16 city/21 highway. With its 21-gallon fuel tank, the luxury CUV carries a theoretical range of 441 miles on the highway while also offering a 5000-pound towing capacity.
The MDX's underpinnings were not forgotten as Acura equipped their crossover with stiffer rear trailing arm mounts while incorporating numerous body rigidity improvements for reduced overall NVH. The Active Damper System has been retuned to provide a more refined ride in Comfort mode and a more natural feeling in Sport mode. Lighter, 18-inch, five-spoke aluminum wheels are now standard, while 19-inch, seven-spoke aluminum wheels are available as part of the new Advance package.
The 2010 MDX will carry the signature look that currently embodies the rest of the Acura lineup, beginning with a sharp, new front end. The front grille, fascia, and hood have been revised along with the side sills. The rear end will sport a new rear fascia, rolled-edge exhaust finishers, and revised taillights with brighter LEDs.
The interior will be graced by a thicker steering wheel, new gauges, increased use of Milano leather, revised center stack button placement, available ventilated front seats, relocated front headrests, and an upgraded interior trim. New technological features include AcuraLink Real-Time Weather and Traffic Rerouting, a new eight-inch navigation screen with new rearview camera, an updated audio system, and more.
Of course, safety has not been neglected during Acura's revisions. The MDX's Vehicle Stability Assist feature has been retuned to deliver a 10-percent improvement in performance during periods of hard acceleration on wet and slippery surfaces.
