October 9, 2009
Hypermilers around the world can take joy in this fact: a Lexus RX 450h luxury SUV managed 45.6 combined mpg. The feat was accomplished in last week’s FleetWorld MPG Marathon, held September 30 and October 1, when the driving team of David Crouch and Richard Lacey pushed the hybrid Lexus to nearly 46 mpg over a 350-mile course.
According to Lexus U.K., the front-drive RX 450h achieves a combined fuel rating of 37.3 mpg. Due to different testing procedures, the EPA has the RX 450h tagged at 32 city and 28 highway mpg here in the U.S.
