2010 Toyota 4Runner to Compete in Upcoming SCORE Baja 1000
November 11, 2009
Toyota will be entering a special 2010 Toyota 4Runner in the 672.85-mile SCORE Baja 1000, a race in which half the racers don't make it to the finish line.
Ivan "Ironman" Stewart, who has won the race 22 times, will be one of the 4Runner's drivers. "I'm sure the ... 4Runner will be tough enough to survive even my Iron foot," he said.
Stewart and the 4Runner will compete against more than 320 entries when the race begins on November 20 in Ensenada, Mexico. It doesn't appear that the Toyota has been too heavily modified, but the SUV does have General Tires and will use the Baja Pits Organization throughout the race, which finishes the same place it starts.
"We’re confident the Fifth Generation 4Runner will be a major contender in the stock mini class and can handle the grueling course,” said Les Unger, Toyota’s national motorsports manager.
We'll see about that once the race ends on November 21. For now, go ahead and check out the 42nd-annual race's map at right.
