Mahindra Trucks Expected to Clear U.S. Regulatory Hurdles by Q1 2010

Mahindra’s incoming TR20 and TR40 trucks are currently under review by the EPA and NHTSA, and Global Vehicles spokesperson Mike Geylin expects the pickups to get final approval by the first quarter of 2010. The trucks are required to pass emissions and crash tests before getting clearance for U.S. roads. Global Vehicles, the official Mahindra importer, will handle initial distribution duties.
The TR20 and TR40 have incited a lot of hubbub since their official announcement. Their impending presence would position them as the only diesel-powered light-duty trucks in the U.S market. The Mahindra trucks would also be the only India-manufactured vehicles, with their final place of assembly being Nashik, India. Mahindra has previously stated that if enough demand is shown, they would consider a U.S. manufacturing site further down the line.
