Volvo XC60 Claims 2010 International Truck of the Year Award

A premium SUV has taken another Truck of the Year award, and this time, it’s the Volvo XC60. After a thorough review by a panel of automotive media judges, Volvo’s newest crossover was named the 2010 International Truck of the Year, beating the redesigned Chevrolet Equinox and Ford Transit Connect. The International Truck of the Year accolade is a part of the International Car of the Year awards, annually selected by Road & Travel magazine.
"The ICOTY awards are not centered on power and performance," said Courtney Caldwell, ICOTY's creator and executive producer. "It's about how cars reflect our personalities, lifestyles, and self image, an attitude most consumers identify with."

To be eligible for the ICOTY awards, the vehicles must adhere to these basic guidelines:
• Vehicle must be new or substantially revised
• Must have been offered for sale to the general public by the judging deadline of November 16
• May not have been previously considered for the ICOTY awards
Vehicles were judged on the following points:
• Appeal to men and women
• Head-turning ability
• Environment friendliness
• Style and performance
• Affordability and practicality
• Grocery-getting potential
• Safety and dependability
• Fun factor, “coolness,” and views as a status symbol
• Pride derived from driving and being seen in judged vehicle
The Volvo XC60 succeeds the fourth-generation Dodge Ram as the incumbent International Truck of the Year, while the Ford Taurus takes the reins from the Nissan GT-R as International Car of the Year.
After 13 years of unveiling at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the 2010 awards were bumped ahead of schedule and revealed at the 2009 Los Angeles Auto Show.
