Recall Alert: 2010 Land Rover Range Rover, 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and 2009 Mercedes-Benz G550

As technology advances, there are bound to be hiccups, it's the nature of the beast and paying more doesn't always exempt you from this. Take, for example, airbags. Land Rover and Jeep are both having issues with them. Mercedes-Benz, meanwhile, is dealing with a fuel line problem.
First up on the block today are 4001 model-year 2010 Land Rover Range Rovers that are being recalled to fix a software problem in the Restraint Control Module. The vehicles in question are equipped with the Occupant Classification System, which uses a variety of sensors to determine the weight, size and position of the person in the seat and decides how and when to deploy the airbags. Should the module experience a problem it will set-off the airbag warning light on the dashboard and disable the passenger-side airbag. Should the vehicle then get in an accident, the front seat passenger would not be optimally protected as the airbag would not deploy. Beginning on or before December 21, Land Rover will update the software to correct the problem for free under NHTSA Recall ID No. 09V467000.

Next up, with airbag deployment problems of its own, is Jeep. Chrysler is recalling 2977 model-year 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokees built between October 22 and November 12 to replace the upper portion of the dashboard. Chrysler has found a problem in the tear seam on the passenger's side of the dash that might prevent it from tearing properly, resulting in the failed or improper deployment of the passenger's airbag in a crash. Beginning this month, Chrysler will replace the upper dash panel of the affected Jeeps for free under NHTSA Recall ID No. 09V454000.

Last but not least is Mercedes-Benz, which is recalling 352 of its luxurious and pricey G-Class SUVs. The affected 2009 Mercedes-Benz G550s may have a quick connector on their fuel lines that wasn't connected properly during assembly. While the fuel pump will turn off in the event of a crash, the bad fitting may dislodge and allow gasoline from the fuel lines to leak out, creating a fire hazard. A recall beginning next month will see the offending connector inspected and an extra clamp added to keep it secure, all free of charge under NHTSA Recall ID No. 09V453000.
