Fleetwood recently introduced their latest 2010 models: the vaunted Discovery Class A diesel motor home and the new Encounter, billed as the first-ever crossover RV. Both were unveiled at the 47th annual National RV Trade Show.
The 41-foot Discovery will be available in three floor plans -- curb-side full-wall-slide, triple-slide mid-ship TV, and triple-slide front galley -- and sit on the Power Bridge chassis. A refreshed list of new standard and available features for 2010 includes:
- Redesigned dash
- Ceramic tile floor from galley to bedroom
- Day/night shades by MCD
- No-cost refrigerator option (22 cu. ft.)
- GPS/AM/FM/DVD in-dash radio
- Exterior entertainment system with Sony 32-inch HD TV
- Automatic generator start
- Central vacuum
- 16-gallon water heater
- Optional, stackable washer and dryer
- Optional, exterior pull-out BBQ grill and kitchenette
- Optional Spartan Motors chassis
Fleetwood’s new crossover RV, the Encounter, is gas-powered and combines the key attributes of Class C and Class A motor homes. Built on Ford’s commercial chassis, the Encounter comes in a 28-foot single-slide, rear bedroom configuration, a 31-foot dual-slide, side-aisle floor plan, and a conventional 31-foot dual-slide layout. Notable features include an 82-inch interior height, Class A storage capacities, Soft Touch Flexsteel driver/passenger captain’s chairs, a 19-inch LCD wide-screen TV with DVD player, a 4-kW Onan generator, and a 15,000-BTU ducted air conditioner. The engine of choice is Ford’s 6.8-liter Triton V-10.
Price-wise, the Encounter takes its cue from the Class C group. The crossover RV has a base MSRP in the $80,000-range, while the larger Discovery starts around $225,000.
