Next-Generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra to Add More Tech Features

Benson KongFeb 26, 2010
The next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra half-tons are due in 2012 and they will receive more standard tech features, including adaptive cruise control, Bluetooth, and a flexible electronics system. Bluetooth is currently available as an option for some, but not all, Silverado and Sierra 1500s.
To meet upcoming federal fuel-efficiency mandates, the Silverado and Sierra will lose weight and improve aerodynamics without compromising work-related performance. According to Rick Spina, GM’s global vehicle line executive for full-size trucks, the team will smooth out mirrors and windshield moldings to reduce drag and possibly eliminate a portion of the trucks’ overhang. Fresh bodywork and interiors are expected.

The new Silverado and Sierra 1500 program was approved last month and will reportedly cost several hundred million dollars. The new trucks will likely debut as 2013 models.
