The D8 was first known as the D12 Peking-to-Paris when it bowed as a 2006 concept but changed its name when it swapped powerplants last year. Spyker originally introduced a 500-horsepower, 6.0-liter Volkswagen W-12 engine but has since decided on the supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 from the Cadillac CTS-V. According to Spyker CEO Victor Muller, newly acquired Saab facilities, parts, and technology were instrumental in hastening the D8’s development, which had been on hold since November.
The D12 was previously priced at a hefty $281,100 and final pricing is likely to be similar. In addition to its Spyker design, the D8 carries a 4400-pound curb weight, a 0-60 mph time of less than five seconds, a top speed of 170 mph, and suicide doors.
