Recall Alert: 2010 Toyota Tundra, 2010 Jeep Commander and Grand Cherokee, 1990-1992 Daihatsu Rocky

Recalls of one sort or another come around with predictable regularity, but every now and then, there's a surprise thrown in. Though there's the Toyota Tundra and the Jeep Commander and Grand Cherokee to get to in today's round-up, we start with Daihatsu.
1990 - 1992 Daihatsu Rocky
The Problem: Wait, what? Daihatsu? Yep. You may, or more likely may not, remember that Daihatsu entered the U.S. market for all of four years back in the late 80s and early 90s with the Charade compact hatch and the Rocky SUV. 18 years after leaving the U.S. market, Daihatsu (now 51 percent owned by Toyota) is recalling the Rocky to replace a check valve in the Fuel Vapor Evaporative Emission Control System that may crack after long-term use in some unspecified environmental or operational circumstances. The be-all, end-all of it is that the cracked valve could allow gasoline vapors to escape into the cabin where they could potentially start a fire if the gas concentration gets high enough and a spark occurs. Daihatsu will replace the old check valve with a new, more durable unit free of charge.

When it can be fixed: March 2010. Call Daihatsu at (626) 968-6764 or go to http://www.daihatsu-help.com/index.htm for more information. NHTSA Recall ID No. 10V083000
Number of vehicles potentially affected: 4000
2010 Jeep Commander and 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee
The Problem: Jeep is recalling its two largest SUVs to replace an improperly manufactured rear track bar. The problem appears to be with a bushing retaining hoop that could be improperly positioned. If the rear track bar is defective, it could reduce vehicle stability, which could increase the risk of a crash. Jeep will inspect the rear track bar and determine if the bushing retaining hoops are out of position and will replace any defective track bars free of charge.

Number of vehicles potentially affected: 3498
2010 Toyota Tundra
The Problem: Toyota is recalling certain four-wheel-drive models of the Tundra truck due to a bad weld on the front driveshaft. The bad weld secures the driveshaft to the yoke on the front axle and should it fail, the two could separate and the drive shaft could fall on the ground, possibly causing a crash. Toyota will replace the defective drive shaft free of charge. If any of this sounds familiar, it's because Toyota recently recalled the 2010 Tacoma pickup for similar reasons.
