Mercury Mariner and Mountaineer SUVs Most Popular Vehicles on Lease Swap Site
Mercury's two SUVs proved to be the most popular vehicles for the brand on LeaseTrader.com, a site at which you can escape your existing vehicle lease.
Now that Ford has officially released word that Mercury will be phased out, we can look to LeaseTrader.com for more evidence that the outgoing brand has lost its cachet.
Mercury was one of the five least successful brands on the site for successfully transferring a lease. That could be because many buyers have forgotten that Mercury still exists or it could be a result of most buyers' not willing to pay a premium for a vehicle with a waterfall grille and two-tone seats.
The Mariner compact SUV and Mountaineer midsize SUV were the two most popular Mercurys on LeaseTrader.com, above the Fusion-rebadge Milan in third place. A quick search on the Web site reveals five Mercury owners currently looking to escape their leases: two with Milan sedans, two with Mariner SUVs, and one with a Mountaineer SUV.
"From 2000-2010," a release states, "Mercury represented less than one percent of total LeaseTrader.com vehicle transactions, slightly above Plymouth and Oldsmobile."
