BFGoodrich Marks 35 Years of Baja Off-Road Competition
Thirty-five years ago, BFGoodrich embarked to the famed Baja California peninsula for some off-road activity. Their goal was to put an experimental radial light-truck tire to the test, a tire that would later evolve into the Radial All-Terrain T/A. After demonstrating initial success, the popularity of BFGoodrich tires would grow by leaps and bounds within both the amateur and professional off-road communities, culminating in 68 overall four-wheel championship titles in the Baja region. BFGoodrich-shod runners have also won 23 of the past 24 SCORE titles, including a stretch of 20 straight wins.
"For 35 years, the SCORE International Baja races have been the off-road focus for BFGoodrich Tires," said Vilija Grazulis, brand manager for BFGoodrich Tires. "Every off-road tire that we sell to consumers today must first stand the test of this tough race. Racers benefit because they get a tried and tested tire that is sure to tackle the demanding terrain of the desert that we in turn build into all of our off-road tires."
The Baja work continues this weekend with the 42nd SCORE Baja 500, the annual prelude to the illustrious Baja 1000 in November.
BFGoodrich will celebrate 35 years of success by offering a unique opportunity to run the upcoming Baja 1000 in its Wide Open Excursion vehicle. Additional details will be released in the coming weeks.
