First Look: 2011 Mercedes-Benz ML63 AMG Gets a Facelift

Andrew PetersonJun 9, 2010
Mercedes-Benz proudly announced it blessed its ML63 AMG SUV with a mild facelift for 2011, but if you blink, you just might miss the cosmetic surgery.

The visual modifications are subtle, to say the least, but they do lend the performance-tuned SUV a slightly more aggressive look. The hood, for instance, now sports two symmetrical power domes, helping to hint at the massive power contained within the engine bay. The projector headlamps now sport a dark black surround, while the taillights -- which also sport LED lighting -- have been smoked to match.
Power, however, doesn’t change. AMG may be rolling out a new 5.5-liter, twin-turbocharged V-8 in some of its 63-series vehicles, but the ML63 AMG retains the normally aspirated 6.2-liter V-8, which produces 503 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. That power is channeled via a seven-speed automatic and sent to all four wheels by an all-wheel-drive system.

Will these mild tweaks work their way stateside? Yes, but we'll only see them for one year as a Mercedes-Benz spokesman told us this morning that the current ML is gone after the 2011 model year. The updated 2011 ML63 AMG hits dealerships in late July and dealers are already accepting orders.
What's your take on the new hood and smoked lights? Are the subtle changes worth it to give the car a meaner look or was it menacing enough already? Sound off in the comments below.
