BFGoodrich Expands Contingency Program for SCCA National Championship Runoffs; Winners to Race in Baja 1000
Tire manufacturers are one of the more amateur-friendly sponsors in the non-professional motorsport scene and BFGoodrich is out to prove this point by expanding its contingency program for the Sports Car Club of America National Championship Runoffs.
Scheduled from September 20-26 at the Road America course in Wisconsin, over 600 amateur-status drivers are expected to compete in numerous classes during the week-long runoffs. Runners wearing BFGoodrich tires and the required stickers and decals will be eligible for the contingency, which awards two BFG g-Force R1 tires to the first-place winner and one to the runner-up. This year, however, the stakes have been raised even higher and the winners from each SCCA class will switch disciplines and earn a seat in the Wide Open Excursions BC race car for the Baja 1000.
"Not only does this program set BFGoodrich Tires apart from the competition, but it also honors the 35th anniversary of BFGoodrich Tires competition in SCORE International's Baja races," said Robert Kukainis, motorsports manager at BFGoodrich. "To have the motorsports legacy of BFGoodrich Tires enables us to reward those who push the limits with an unforgettable opportunity."
This year's Baja 1000 will be held the week of November 15-21, with the race starting on November 18. The Wide Open Excursions vehicle provides "arrive and drive" seats for other Baja events and adventure tours.
