As the official tire of Yellowstone Park Foundation, Michelin's goal is to help reduce the park's emissions by 30 percent by 2016. In addition to giving tires, Michelin engineers visit the park, recommending ways to optimize the tires for the park's tough conditions.
iYellowstone is the ideal proving ground for developing the best tires for our customers,i said Don Baldwin, product category manager for Michelin's Americas Truck Tires division. iThese trucks operate in extreme conditions all year round. From very low to high temperatures, in varying altitudes, in both dry and wet weather, and on all kinds of surfacesofrom pavement to gravel, sand to snowothese trucks have to keep working. What weire hearing is that Michelin tires have helped them do that more efficiently.i
Since Michelin first started helping the park in 2009, fleet managers at Yellowstone have reported fuel savings of as much as 20 percent on the first seven vehicles. If the park is to meet the goal of reducing gas emissions by 30 percent by 2016, however, it may take much more than just energy-saving tires on seven park vehicles: 1.1 million vehicles enter Yellowstone Park each year.
