Recalled: Improperly Installed Manual Transmission Cables On 2010 Honda Element

Benson Kong
Aug 6, 2010
Up to 585 Honda Elements from the 2010 model year may be afflicted with an improperly installed cable contained in the manual transmission assembly, potentially causing the boxy vehicle to be without a working gear shifter.

Per the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Honda's findings, the affected Elements were fitted with a shifter cable that may not be properly attached to the shift lever bracket. This could cause confusion as the Element may not be in the driver's selected gear and potentially cause operational problems and even an accident. A stop-sale has also been issued in light of the issue.
The NHTSA campaign ID number is 10V361000, while Honda's recall campaign number is R45. Potentially affected owners may contact Honda at 800-999-1009. The NHTSA can be reached at 888-327-4236 or on the Web at Safercar.gov.
