Banks Sidewinder S10 Drags Self to NHRDA Top Diesels Win

Gale Banks Engineering, a major proprietor of diesel performance, took its record-setting Sidewinder S10 to the National Hot Rod Diesel Association's World Finals in Topeka, Kansas, to set yet another blazing quarter-mile time.
The Sidewinder S10 managed a time of 7.77 seconds at 177 mph to win the NHRDA contest, matching its own record time. The trap speed ended up being three mph under the ultimate record, which was attributed to shorter tires and worse air density, but was fast nonetheless. Wes Anderson was behind the Sidewinder's wheel for the Top Diesels victory.

The Banks Sidewinder S10 employs a Duramax diesel with a stock block and crank but the heads and engine's upper section have been fully built. The diesel can hit 5800 rpm and makes over 1200 horsepower thanks to nitrous oxide and water-methanol injection. The truck runs a five-speed manual Pro Stock-style transmission and Hoosier slicks mounted to American Racing wheels. Suspension and brakes were sourced from Lamb.
