Nissan announced today it will recall 2.14 million vehicles worldwide to repair ignition relays, marking the automaker's third largest recall in its 76 years of operation.

According to a recent Reuters report, the recall surrounds ignition relays installed in select batches of vehicles may be faulty, possibly causing the engine to stall and fail to restart. Nissan notes won't disclose the specific supplier of the part, but indicates all parts were sourced from a single company. The automaker also notes no accidents have been attributed to the issue.
Vehicles affected by the recall were primarily built between August 2003 and July 2006, and manufactured at several different plants across the world. Nissan expects to recall roughly 738,276 vehicles in the U.S. and 23,252 in Canada, including model year 2004 - 2006 Armada, Titan, and Infiniti QX56 models, as well as 2005 - 2006 Frontier, Pathfinder, and Xterra models. Abroad, vehicles recalled also include the March/Micra small car, along with the previous generation of the boxy Cube.

Details of the recall's implementation here in North America have yet to be announced, but owners should expect to hear from the automaker within the next 3-4 weeks. Automotive News claims the recall won't be terribly expensive for Nissan, and the repair -- which consists of simply replacing the ignition relay -- should take less than a half-hour.
