Recall: 2009 Dodge Journey and 2008-2011 Ram 4500/5500, 2011 Ram 1500 Trucks Need Repairs
Chrysler usher's in the New Year with several recalls from Ram and Dodge that range from wiring harnesses issues, insufficient lubrication, and faulty tie rod assembly.
2009 Dodge Journey
The Problem: The wiring harnesses on the front doors may degrade over time and disable the circuitry associated with the side impact sensor. This in turn will illuminate the gauge cluster's airbag warning light and cause the loss of the side airbags, which increases the chance of injury in the event of a crash.
The Fix: Dodge dealers will replace the driver and passenger door wiring harness starting in February 2011.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 65,180
2011 Ram 1500
The Problem: Rear axle bearings ensure smooth operation, but some may be at risk of overheating and seizing due to insufficient lubrication. Owners should be vigilant for growling or grinding noises coming from the stern.
The Fix: The factory recommended lube fill amount for the rear axle increases from 71 ounces to 91 ounces, and dealers will add the extra 20 ounces for free.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 56,611
2008-2011 Ram 4500, 5500
The Problem: The very heavy-duty trucks' driver side ball stud on the tie rod could fracture and cause a loss of steering.
The Fix: Commercial dealers will have to replace the driver side outer tie rod assembly, beginning in February 2011.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 22,274
