Recall: 2012 BMW X5 xDrive35d for Cracked Belt Tensioner Welds
BMW is recalling all 2012 xDrive35d models for issues with welds in the belt tensioner for the power steering.
The Problem: 2012 BMW X5 xDrive35d models manufactured between March 31, 2011 and May 19, 2011 may have issues with the welds in the belt tensioner. The welds may have small cracks, which could result in the tensioner malfunctioning and a loss of power steering. BMW started the recall after being notified by the supplier and then testing components -- there have been no injuries or deaths as a result.
The Fix: BMW Dealers will replace the affected tensioners, free of charge, beginning this month. Customers can contact BMW at 1-800-525-7417.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 923 2012 X5 xDrive35d models, manufactured between March 31 and May 19.
