Texas Thieves Steal 140 Wheels And Tires From GMCs At Texas Dealership
Someone must really dislike the all the chrome GM is bathing their trucks and SUVs in. Police in the Dallas suburb of Rockwall have said that a gang of thieves made off with 140 chrome wheels from 35 full size GMC Sierras and Yukons. The theft occurred at Heritage Buick GMC on Saturday night.
The owner of the dealership Robert Bobo said he found out about the theft the next day when police contacted him about the crime. "When I pulled up to see how bad it really was, it was very shocking," Bobo said to NBC Dallas-Fort Worth. Bobo arrived at his dealership to find 35 trucks and SUVs sitting wheel-less on small wooden blocks, with nothing but loose lug nuts hinting at what was missing. Bobo said that his estimated losses are around $150,000.
The Rockwall Police Department believe that four to six very experienced criminals were involved in Saturday night's heist. For starters, the area of the lot chosen lacked camera coverage and three light posts in the area were disabled. Electricians said that whoever cut the cables did so with the proper tools and knowledge; had they not known what they were doing there would have been a significant risk of electrocution.
Heritage Buick GMC mechanics also believe the thieves to be experienced. They said that they believed the thieves wasted no time with tire irons; they went straight to the big guns -- electric cordless drills. The mechanics estimated that it took the thieves between two and 10 minutes to jack up each side of the Sierra or Yukon, take off the 20 or 22-inch chrome wheels (worth between $1895 and $3855 a set, respectively), and then lower and balance the full size trucks on small wooden blocks. While not exactly NASCAR timing, it's still an impressive feat, no less.
Even with his dealership looking at $150,000 in losses, Bobo is thankful that the thieves took their time in removing the wheels, "I'm very thankful for, actually grateful, that they took their time to remove them and not to damage anything else," Bobo told NBC Dallas-Fort Worth
So far, the police have no leads on the crime, which took place within 100 yards of I-30.
