Jason UdyAug 4, 2011
Continental has released a new tire for the SUV, crossover, and truck crowd. The new all-season CrossContact LX20 with EcoPlus Technology was designed to please customers and the environment. Its longer tread life and shorter stopping distances benefit the consumer while its increased fuel mileage and reduced carbon footprint benefit the environment.

According to Continental, independent testing found the CrossContact LX20 265/70R17 stopped 34 feet shorter than Pirelli's Scorpion STR A P265/70R17 113H.
"We're fully committed to building advanced tires and improving the environment - reducing CO2 emissions, reducing our waste and researching new and innovative ways to advance tire technology," said Bill Caldwell, vice president of sales and marketing, Continental Tire, in a press release. "The fact that our customers ultimately keep more money in their wallets is frosting on the cake. We've created a cutting-edge tire that helps to keep our world greener, that saves fuel and money and that is safer than the competition. We're proud of this tire and we're happy to be able to offer our customers the features they demand in one tire."

Continental proved the CrossContact LX20's worth on the Volkswagen Touareg TDI Clean Diesel that Rainer Zietlow and his teammates drove when they set the world record for traveling the Pan-America Highway in the shortest amount of time. The team drove the full 16,000 miles from the tip of Argentina to northern Alaska on one set of tires, never using the two spares they brought with them.
