Ford Compact Crossover Mule Spotted in Colorado

Sep 1, 2011
A reader of Motor Trend spotted these heavily-disguised mules testing around Pike's Peak, Colorado. Seeing as the convoy was accompanied by a Fiesta, it's probably a safe assumption the models are Fords of some type, but what? Will it be sold in the U.S. or were they here strictly for testing purposes?

The prevailing speculation is that it's either the Brazil-market EcoSport, or a version of the upcoming B-Max Fiesta-based crossover. Either way, its size is significantly smaller than even the existing Escape, which is on the small side of the crossover spectrum.
Further adding to the mystery is the rear-mounted cladding flaps indicating conventional front-hinged doors, whereas the B-Max concept showed rear sliders, and other mules and prototypes similar in size to this have been spotted with rear sliders as well. Special thanks to MT reader Ben Cowden for these shots!
