High Demand: VW Slovakia Increases SUV Production

It seems as though SUVs are hot in the market, as the Slovak unit of Volkswagen has increased production 45 percent to keep up with the rising demand of utes in the past six months.
Volkswagen Slovakia said it assembled 94,600 vehicles from January to June at the carmaker's Bratislava factory, where the VW Touareg, Audi Q7, and bodies for the Porsche Cayenne are produced. Numbers are expected to rise when a new range of cars, dubbed the "New Small Family" starts production in the second half of the year.

The first car in this lineup will be the VW Up mini-car that is slated to make its debut at the upcoming Frankfurt show, and others to join the lineup will include everything from a coupe to a minivan.
VW appears to be on the right track toward its goal of becoming the world's best-selling automaker by 2018, and it hopes this new range will push it closer toward that goal. Just last year, VW came in right behind Toyota's 8.42 million, and GM's 8.39 million, selling 7.14 million units.
