Jeep Adds Special Edition 2012 Wrangler Arctic, Liberty Arctic Models to Lineup

Wish you could buy that nifty-looking Jeep Wrangler Arctic special edition? You're in luck: the treatment is no longer relegated to the European market. Jeep announced today that the 2012 Wrangler Arctic is destined for the U.S. market, as is a new 2012 Liberty Arctic model.

Jeep still maintains the new package is inspired by the grueling terrain of the Arctic -- which, it can't help but note, is "just the type of terrain Jeep vehicles are designed to conquer." Perhaps, but neither the Wrangler Arctic nor its Liberty sibling are blessed with specialized equipment designed to facilitate sub-zero travel. Instead, the Arctic package is essentially a spiffy dress-up kit for the 2012 Wrangler Sahara, the 2012 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara, and the 2012 Liberty Sport.
On Wranglers, that dress-up kit is essentially identical to what's offered abroad. Wrangler Arctic models -- which are only offered in Winter Chill, Bright Silver, or Bright White paint -- receive a number of cosmetic touches inspired by the mythical yeti. In fact, the abominable snowman rears his head on the unique exterior badging and front seat covers, while his footprint is found on the driver's front fender.

Other exterior revisions include unique black 17-inch wheels, a matching gas cap cribbed from Mopar's accessory catalog, and a black hood accent that's unique to the North American model. Inside, Arctic models receive Mopar floormats, new seat inserts and piping, accent stitching on the steering wheel and center console lid, orange accents for the door storage pockets, and accent trim decorated with a Polar White finish.

The 2012 Liberty Arctic treatment is similar, but incorporates some unique touches. A fourth exterior paint color -- Mineral Grey -- is available only on the Liberty model. Exterior emblems and black-finished 16-inch aluminum wheels echo the Wrangler Arctic package, but the Liberty Arctic receives blacked-out headlamp bezels, deep tint window glass, and a hood decal that's allegedly exclusive to the Liberty model.
Liberty Arctic models continue with the black-and-orange color scheme established by its Wrangler sibling, but branches off in its own direction. Seats are trimmed in black vinyl, but feature Techtonic fabric inserts, an embossed logo, and orange accent stitching along the seat backs, cushions, and headrests. Liberty Arctic models also receive grey-colored gauge faces, Mopar-sourced slush mats, and a nine-speaker Infiniti audio system.

Pricing for either model in the U.S. has yet to be announced, but expect those figures to arrive shortly: Jeep says both the 2012 Wrangler Arctic and 2012 Liberty Arctic will roll into dealers across the country later this month.
