IIHS Announces New Truck/SUV Top Safety Picks for 2012 Model Year

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety today announced more model-year 2012 vehicles that have received the group's coveted Top Safety Pick designation. To qualify for the Top Safety Pick rating, a vehicle must achieve a "good" score in each of IIHS' four crash tests, including frontal, side, rear, and rollover collisions, and stability control must be standard or optional on the vehicle.

The IIHS said that Honda and Acura saw substantial improvements in crash safety due to strengthened roof panels. As a result, the 2012 Pilot and Ridgeline, and 2012 Acura MDX, were all awarded Top Safety Pick status today. Other vehicles that received the Top Safety Pick award today include the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz M-Class.
In total, the IIHS has classified 115 vehicles as Top Safety Picks for 2012. They are listed below.
