2013 Ford F-150 Spied
New Grille Keeps Ford's Volume Player Fresh Ahead of Increased Competition
The 2013 Ford F-150 has been caught in the wild, with the camouflage almost making the changes more conspicuous than they would be if the truck had been seen unmasked. As you can see from the spyshots, the F-150's grill will adopt a three-bar design similar to Ford's Edge midsize crossover.
It's unknown whether this grille design will be used across the lineup, or is specific to a certain trim level. The test truck snapped by the photographer may be an EcoBoost model, as evidenced by the badge on the front door. The turbocharged V-6 has proven to be a big hit with F-150 buyers, consistently accounting for more than 40 percent of sales for each month in 2012 so far.
No major powertrain changes are expected for 2013, having been comprehensively refreshed in mid-2011. Although many enthusiasts have expressed interest in the EcoBoost V-6 being offered as an option in the off-road oriented F-150 Raptor, it seems the 6.2-liter V-8 will remain the only option for Ford's off-road performance flagship.
Ford will face an all-new Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500 for the 2014 model year, as well as a comprehensively refreshed 2013 Ram 1500 with a new eight-speed transmission on the base Pentastar V-6 and will eventually be offered on models with the Hemi V-8 as well.
