2013 Reportedly End-Of-Line for Subaru Tribeca

Slow-Selling Three Row on its Way Out

May 23, 2012
Since its introduction for the 2006 model year, the Subaru Tribeca has been an outlier in Subaru's lineup. While the Outback totaled a solid 104,405 units and the Forester rang up 76,196 sales for 2011, a mere 2791 Tribecas moved off the lot that year, making it the lowest-selling model in Subaru's lineup by far, measuring a mere one-fifth of even the niche performance-oriented Impreza WRX's total for the year.

Official comment from Subaru's U.S. public relations indicates the Tribeca will continue into the 2013 model year, but no comment was offered in terms of its prospects beyond that date. The outlook is not promising, as its 16 mpg city and 21 mpg highway fuel economy ratings make it thirsty for a midsize SUV in a day and age where those figures are being achieved by fullsize trucks with substantially higher towing and hauling capabilities.

Subaru executives are reportedly confident that the Outback, Legacy and new Impreza-based XV Crosstrek will adequately address customers' needs for utility and off-road capability. If you're one of the (few) fans of Subaru's midsize SUV entry, your chance to buy one new looks like it may be nearing an end.
