Chrysler Expands Jeep Liberty Control Arm Recall, 346,900 Vehicles Now Covered
In an expansion of a recall originally issued in March of this year, Jeep is now covering Liberty SUV models from the 2004 to 2007 model year built from July 3, 2003 through June 29, 2007. The recall expansion represents an increase in the number of models covered by 137,176 units. The original recall covered 2004-2005 models.
Vehicles covered under the recall may be susceptible to excessive corrosion on lower rear control arms in "salt belt" states. Because it's a regional issue, only vehicles registered in the following states are covered by the recall: Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and The District of Columbia.
A statement by Chrysler says that the company is unaware of any accidents or injuries resulting from the faulty control arms, but as with the original recall, will replace the control arms on all affected vehicles free of charge.
If you believe you own an affected vehicle, you can call NHTSA's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 888-327-4236, or Chrysler at 800-853-1403.
