Prepared for Combat: Volkswagen Amarok M Debuts
Another Volkswagen Amarok variant has been revealed, this time catering to the needs of the German military. Called the Amarok M, the truck is the latest in a long line of military Volkswagens created over the last few decades.
The Volkswagen Amarok M ("M" for "military") is designed to provide the German military with a versatile and capable domestic pickup for combat and non-combat duties. A few different configurations are offered including a scout variant, a version with a light bar for use by the military police, and a general utility variant.
Like the civilian variant, the Amarok M is powered by VW's TDI 2.0-liter turbodiesel I-4, producing as much as 180 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic and, as expected, the Amarok M features standard four-wheel drive. The Amarok M gets a slight ground clearance bump thanks to a lifted (and reinforced) suspension and 16-inch off-road tires.
No word yet on whether the German military actually plans on purchasing the Volkswagen Amarok M, but we still wouldn't count on ever seeing an Amarok of any kind in the U.S.
